A Beauty & Life Blog
Hello there! Long time no write! I know it’s been a very long time since I’ve written a post on here. I’m going to be writing some new posts on here soon! So stay tuned! ♡
Hello there! Long time no write! I’m so sorry it’s been forever since I last posted. As some of you know, I haven’t been feeling too well and have had a lot going on when it comes to my health. I’m doing a bit better this week and was feeling inspired, so I wanted to write a new blog post finally!
I took a picture of my makeup today, it’s not the best picture, but it’s going to have to do. Do you ever have those days where no matter what you do, you just don’t feel the greatest about yourself? That’s me today. I was trying to look like a more “normal” person, and of course then I start sweating like crazy! I sweat so much in my hair and have increased sweating due to some of the medications that I take.
Anyhow, I wanted to just do a simple Makeup of the Day post today. I tried some new products today, and wanted to give you my first impressions on them. I will be listing everything that I used, and then I will tell you my thoughts. I will let you know if it’s new to me, or if I’ve been using it for a while…
Primer: Glossier Priming Moisturizer
I’ve been using this primer on and off for a long time now. I think it’s great for when you want to skip that extra step, moisturizing your face before you apply your primer. It cuts down on a little time in my routine. I really like this primer, I think it would be great for anyone’s skin type. Though you should always be sure that your primer is compatible with the foundation you plan to use with it. Water and oil don’t mix. If your foundation is water-based, be sure to use a water-based primer. It helps to look at the ingredients list for each product. If they’re both water-based, then water should be one of the first ingredients listed.
Foundation: (NEW to me) It Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Foundation
I tried this for the first time today, and so far I really like it! I have the shade Fair, which is a great match for me! It’s not too dark, not too light, it doesn’t make me look like I’m a corpse anyway! If you have more mature skin, or your skin is more on the dry side, Then I’d recommend this for you. It has more of a natural and dewy finish. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, and it doesn’t look cakey. It has a medium coverage, but can be built up to a fuller coverage. I used my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to apply it, and I thought it applied very well. I use a blending sponge a majority of the time, but I need to wash some before I open any of the newer ones I’ve been hoarding.
Concealer: Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in the shade Fair Neutral & Color Correcting Fluid in the shade Pink
I’ve used these together for quite a while now. What I like about them is that they’re not too heavy or dry looking. I feel like the Naked Skin concealer doesn’t settle into my fine lines underneath my eyes as much as the Tarte Shape Tape does. The Tarte Shape tape is thick, has full coverage, and does a great job hiding any other imperfections. The Color Correcting Fluid in the shade Pink is great for canceling out those dark circles under the eyes if you have fair skin.
Face Powder: W3ll People Bio Brightener Invisible Powder
Another product that I’ve been using for a long time now, this one is actually 100% natural. It’s a very fine loose powder used to create a soft-focus effect, and blur any imperfections. If you have fair/pale skin, sometimes it works better to use a powder that is translucent. Using a powder that is a little darker, can deposit the color into your concealer when you’re trying to set it; making your concealer look a little off on your skin. That’s always what would happen to me anyway.
Bronzer: Top: Physician’s Formula Bronze Booster & Bottom: Essence sun club matt bronzing powder for lighter skin in 01 natural
First I will be talking about the Physician’s Formula Bronze Booster. In this one, I really only use the middle shade. It’s great for contouring/sculpting since it’s a cooler toned matte bronzer. I’m not into full-on contouring, but I like to use it to try to define my cheek bones. The bottom one in the picture, is the Essence sun club matte bronzing powder for lighter skin types. I use this for all over bronzing. It’s a great shade to use if you’re pale like me, it really warms up my face.
Blush: (NEW to me) Pretty Vulgar Blush in the shade Hush Blush
How cute is this packaging?! It’s Adorable! I recieved this blush in this month’s Boxycharm. Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription. Here is a picture that I posted to Instgram of this month’s box…
Getting back to the blush, I really love this shade! This rose colored blush is matte and looks gorgeous on! I’m really happy with this blush and see myself using it regularly. I applied it lightly because it was pretty pigmented. I wouldn’t mind getting a couple more shades!
Highlighter: (NEWER to me) Laura Gellar Filter Finish Setting Powder
I know this is supposed to be a “setting powder,” but the beautiful sheen it leaves on your cheek bones says otherwise! If you want a radiant ethereal looking glow, but do NOT want to look like glitter bombed on your face, then I highly recommend you try this! This is a new favorite of mine currently!
Brows – Milani Brow Fix Kit in Light & essence make me brow eyebrow gel mascara in the shade blondy brows…
I know this Milani brow kit doesn’t look too pretty, but it is very much loved! ❤ I use EVERYTHING in this brow kit. I have repurchased this many times. No matter what else I try, I come back to this. I’ve hit pan in the brow highlighter, amazing huh? I love brow powder more than pencils because it looks so much more natural on myself. The powder clings to brow hairs and defines them. My brows are naturally light, so the powder pretty much just darkens the hairs. The essence gel mascara is supposed to be a dupe for the Benefit gimme brow. Some people love it, some do not. I love it, and I love that it’s budget friendly. The brow mascara itself contains tiny fibers that cling to your brow hairs to make them look thicker as well.
Eyeshadow Primer: (NEWER to me) essence eyeshadow & primer
I’ve been using this for a little bit, it reminds me a lot of the Mac Paint Pots. I have the actual Mac Paint Pot in Ochre. Funny thing is, I like this one a lot more! This works pretty well. I use my finger to pat it onto my eyelids. Patting works better than trying to just rub it in. This is very inexpensive! I ordered it from the actual essence website. If you order at least $15 of product from the essence website, shipping is free!
Eyeshadow: (NEW to me) 2 shades from the Made for Boxycharm Pür Cosmetics Palette
For an all over base shade, I used the shade ‘PÜRFECT.’ Then I just kept it simple and popped the shade ‘BAE’ onto my eyelids. I tried to use the new Vintage Cosmetic brushes that came with this month’s Boxycharm, but they really didn’t pick up the eyeshadow very well. So I just used my finger to pat BAE on all over my lids. I just wanted a pop of color today. From what I can tell so far, these shadows are pretty pigmented and I’m looking forward to trying more shades in this palette. Here is my face at the end of the day, you can see that there was eyeshadow there, but it’s pretty much worn off. I will try these shadows with other eyeshadow primers to see if that helps.
Eyeliner: Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in the shade Brown
I only used eyeliner for my lower lash line. I wanted to draw more attention to the eyeshadow. I really like these waterproof liners, they’re very lasting and don’t smudge.
Mascara: Covergirl The Super Sizer Mascara in very black
I’ve used this mascara on and off for a while now. I really like the wand, it’s easy to use, and it doesn’t seem to take as long to coat my lashes. It’s volumizing, lengthening, and it only seems to flake a little when I use too much…I usually prefer drugstore mascaras over high-end ones. They work just the same if not better!
Lipgloss: (NEW to me) Colourpop Kathleen Lights Ultra Glossy Lip in Moon Child
Going out today, I just wanted to pop on a simple gloss. Moon Child is described as a pinky nude with gold glitter. It’s very shiny and has medium coverage. It wasn’t sticky and I thought it was okay. It wasn’t as pigmented as I thought it would be. I guess I’ve been spoiled using the Jouer High Pigment Lip Glosses. Those are amazing by the way! This gloss was a little too shiny. Maybe I could pair it on top of something else. I won’t give up on it yet though.
That’s all for this post! I hope you enjoyed it! I’m also hoping to post more on a regular basis. I’m going to be having a surgical procedure done for my TMJ. It’s called arthrocentesis. It’s where they drain the excess fluid I have around my jaw joints, then flush them out. It will hopefully help with the pain the long run. It’s the least invasive procedure to treat it. I probably won’t know the actual surgery date for another week or two. So, I will probably be recovering from that for a little bit at some point. I hope everyone is having a great first week of spring! Thank you for stopping by and reading!
Hey there, How’s it going? I am doing as good as can be at the moment. I was recently sent the Mia Adora Bold Lash Extreme Effect Mascara Gel to try, and to review. This is not a sponsored post, this mascara was sent out of no obligation and with “no strings attached.” All opinions of products sent to me or otherwise, are honest, and my own. Okay, now that we got that part out of the way, let’s get on with the review…
The link that I was given for this mascara is linked to Amazon. I had never heard of Mia Adora Beauty, but they do sell some other products as well. The packaging is black, simple, and the design of the wand makes it easy to hold onto. The brush is bigger and the bristles look shorter in the photo above, but in person they’re not that short. I just think they’re placed closer together, which really helps with separating your lashes. Their description claims that this mascara has a new and improved formula. They claim it’s clump free, smudge proof, water resistant, and Paraben & SLS free. It’s supposed to have a special formulation that adds “incredible length, volume, and curl.”
Here is a picture with the left eye coated with the mascara and the right eye without…
A picture with both eyes done…
I really wasn’t sure what to expect with this mascara, but I was quite pleasantly surprised! ALL of the claims do seem to be true! I had found myself in a little bit of a mascara slump lately, until I tried this one. My natural lashes are very light, short, and sparse. They usually won’t hold much of a curl and will stick out straight. I found this mascara to be very lengthening, volumizing without being overly clumpy, and the wand did a great job of separating my lashes as well.
In the pictures above, I only really used one coat of mascara on each eye. It didn’t seem to take forever to coat my lashes. Normally, I just loathe the process of applying mascara because it seems to take forever! Another claim is that this mascara is supposed to be made for all day wear, I didn’t experience any flaking, and this mascara is listed on the Amazon link as being cruelty-free. I didn’t have much of problem removing this mascara either. It can be removed with gently wiping your eye with eye makeup remover or warm water with your usual cleanser.
If you’re interested and would like to purchase this mascara, you can click here to check it out. This mascara retails for $9.97 on Amazon. I was given a discount code as well. You can get 25% off using the code MIA25NOW. I don’t get paid if you use it or anything, it’s just a discount code they gave to me to give to my followers.
Well that’s it for this post. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading! I hope you enjoyed this post! Have a great week and take care! ❤
Hello there, how’s it going? I’m finally getting this post up! I realize it’s October already, and I’m just now posting about a September box. Though this post might be helpful to you if you’ve been considering purchasing the PÜR Soiree Diaries palette. I will also be talking about the other items in this box as well. I have tried everything, except for the MAC brow liner. I don’t use brow liners anymore really, and stick to my Milani Brow Fix Kit. I do have a picture of a swatch of the MAC brow liner, and can try to tell you what my first impression is from that alone. The theme for the September Boxycharm box was Boxy Baddie.
For those of you that don’t know about Boxycharm, this is a monthly beauty subscription box. It costs $21/month, but you receive 5 (or in this box’s case 6) items a month. The items are usually a mix of makeup, skin care, hair care, or even a nail polish. These are usually full-sized items. There might be a rare deluxe size, but I can’t recall that happening. September’s box contained $141 worth of products! That is a great deal for only $21/month. There is usually a waiting list that can last a few weeks or up to a month or so.
First, we’ll take a look at the PÜR Soiree Diaries palette. It’s definitely the star of September’s Boxycharm. This palette retails for $34. It contains 4 matte shades, 4 satin shades, and 4 shimmer shades.
This palette is a good mix of neutral, copper, and bronze shades. I read that you can use the colors in the vertical rows, from top to bottom, to create different looks. That does make it easier if you’re not sure what colors you want to put together. The pictures down below are pictures of each row with pictures of their swatches underneath. These are all finger swatches done without primer.
Most of these shadows are very pigmented. When I say most, I’m talking about the first 2 rows. The bottom row of shimmers do look pigmented in the finger swatches. However, I had a hard time using a brush to apply the shimmer shades. I had to use my finger, but it was still a little difficult to build up the color on my lids. I felt like I had to really dig in there. I am not fond of whatever formula they used for the shimmer shades. I really like the other shades. They blend well and I had no trouble with applying those. I will still keep playing around with it, It’s a nice neutral palette to have.
The next item, is the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask. This size retails for $20. I really like this one a lot. After shampooing, you just apply this to your hair and leave it on for 10 minutes. I like this a lot because it’s not too heavy. I have a lot of hair, but it’s more fine. This mask doesn’t weigh down my hair and it’s just the right amount of conditioning if you deal with oily roots. It won’t make your hair feel greasy at all. I liked it so much, that I bought another online from the Briogeo website for a backup for when this one runs out.
This is the bareMinerals Face Perfecting brush, it retails for $28. It was meant to be used with the bareSkin liquid foundation. It has a “fluid reservoir” that is designed to hold your liquid foundation…
This brush contains synthetic fibers and is very soft. I was really excited to get this brush. It’s really convenient to be able to pump your foundation on this brush and I think it works well. It’s not my most favorite face brush to use. I would rather use my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush instead. I feel like that one works better when it comes to buffing out my foundation. This brush was more difficult to clean. The foundation would get caught deep down in the middle, and you really have to get down in there to get it cleaned properly. If you received a different variation of September’s box, don’t feel too bad. The other variation contained some eye brushes I believe.
This is the Studio Makeup Luminous Loose Blush. There is no shade name listed, and it’s not listed for sale on the actual Studio Makeup website. The only place I could find to purchase this blush, is on the Boxycharm website or on Amazon. This blush retails for $35. It’s such a beautiful shade! I would normally not be too thrilled to get a loose blush because of the mess, but it’s so worth it! It looks very natural and is long-lasting. I feel like this shade is very flattering for my skin tone, and it’s the perfect shade I’ve been looking for, but I just didn’t know it! Some of the other Boxycharm subscribers received the Studio Makeup Translucent Loose Face Powder.
Everyone received a Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in various shades. I’m not a fan of the Ultra Matte formula, but I do like the Ultra Satin and Glossy formulas. This retails for $6. I got the “greige” shade Mess Around. When I opened my box and saw this shade, I was kind of excited to try such a different shade. I normally go for nudes, pinks, or peachy shades. I tried it on though and was disappointed. It just did not look how I imagined it. I just don’t think it’s right for my skin tone, and I probably won’t be wearing it again. There are a lot of people that can pull off this shade, but it wasn’t for me…
Lastly, is the MAC eyebrow pencil in the shade Lingering. This retails for $18. I had heard that we were going to be receiving MAC in our boxes, but I was surprised to see a MAC eyebrow pencil. There were two different shades that you could get in your box. The other shade is Spiked, which is a much darker shade. There are a total of 10 shades on the Mac website. I haven’t used this on my eyebrows because like I said, I have been really happy with just using my Milani Brow Fix kit. I like using powders because they just look more natural on me. I”m not sure if I will ever actually use this pencil. I’ve only swatched it (picture down below), and it feels a little more on the drier/stiffer side. Though that is just my first impression from swatching it.
Here are a couple of pictures of myself wearing some shades from the PÜR cosmetics palette, and I’m wearing the Studio Makeup blush. I used the shades Mogul, Gala, Twinkle, and Stunner. As you can see, the Twinkle doesn’t really show up on my lids. My lids are not twinkling…
Well that’s it for this post. I really do like Boxycharm and I highly recommend them. You can check out their website here. If you didn’t catch it, you check out my August Boxycharm post here. As much as I do love Boxycharm, I have decided to cancel my subscription for now. I canceled it because I feel like I’m pretty overwhelmed with makeup right now. How can that happen right? I will probably sign up again sometime in the future. The only subscription that I’m getting right now is Ipsy. I can do a post on this month’s Ipsy bag, let me know if that’s something you would like to see and read. Feel free to ask any questions about this post in the comments. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading! Take care! ❤
***Edit: After seeing a November sneak peek, I re-subscribed to Boxycharm. It happened sooner than I thought!***
Hello there! How is everyone’s week going? It’s about 4:30 a.m. here, I haven’t been able to get much sleep. I slept for a couple of hours, then I was wide awake at 2 a.m. Since I’m awake, I thought I would finally get this post written and ready. Today I am going to talk about L’Oreal’s new hair line. I will be talking about the Extraordinary Clay pre-shampoo mask, shampoo, and conditioner. There is a dry shampoo with this hair line as well, but I didn’t pick that one up.
This specific hair line was made for those of us with oily roots and dry ends. I didn’t always have oily roots. It seemed like after starting a different contraceptive medication months ago, my scalp just got really oily. I had never really had this problem before. The first step in this line, is the pre-shampoo mask. On dry hair before shampooing, you apply this mask to your roots all over. Only the roots need to be done and they suggest sectioning hair to do this, to make sure you have all of your roots covered. This mask is then left on for 5 minutes. I suppose you could be shaving your legs or something while you’re waiting. Though I really don’t see this as something anyone would want to use when they’re in a hurry. I do believe that this mask is an important part of the process. The mask absorbs all of the excess oil and impurities. I do feel that using this pre-shampoo mask makes a difference. I recommend buying this with the shampoo & conditioner. I think it does a better job than if you were to just use the shampoo & conditioner alone.
The mask comes in a tub with a lid that screws off and on. I would just dip my fingers in it and try to cover my roots the best I could. It would be nice if it came in a squeeze tube at least, something like that. I’m not a big fan of having to dig into tubs like this to get the product out.
Before you shampoo, you’re supposed to rinse the mask out thoroughly. Then use the shampoo like you would normally. This hair line claims to be suitable for color-treated hair, is silicone free, and it uses 3 different clays to purify oily roots and hydrate dry ends.
Then of course the last step is the conditioner. You’re supposed to leave it on for 1-3 minutes, and it’s supposed to purify oily roots and hydrate your dry ends without weighing your hair down. When I applied it, i just put it on from the ends up to the mid-shaft. I’m sure it’s probably okay to just add it all over, but that’s just what I’ve been doing lately. Using this system, your roots are supposed to stay purified for 48 hours and your ends hydrated for 48 hours. I wash my hair at least every other day, so I do find this claim to be true. Though I have gone an extra day longer without washing my hair, and I really couldn’t push it. My roots were already getting oily.
Overall, I do like this set. I think it’s a good price for those of us on a budget, and we can’t always buy what’s new and expensive in the salon. I bought mine from Target for $3.97 each. The shampoo & conditioner are still listed for $3.97 on the Target website, but the pre-shampoo mask is listed for $5.99 right now. I would definitely compare prices. Some places are selling it for about 7 or 8 dollars each. Buying 3 things for that price, it definitely adds up!
Tip: Download the app Shopular to your phone. You can access a variety of ads for stores that you shop at, all in one place!
The only things that I don’t like about this line, is that it’s a bit time consuming having the extra step to use the pre-shampoo mask. I also feel like my hair feels different or a little weird after. I don’t quite know how to explain it. I usually use this set off and on and switch it out with some other shampoo I have for oily hair. It’s always good to switch up your hair products every now and then.
So if you’re suffering from oily roots and dry ends, I think this line is worth a try. If you need your hair to last longer than the 48 hours, maybe the dry shampoo in this line could help too. I will I have to try it sometime after I use up my current dry shampoo.
Well that’s it for this post. I hope that you enjoyed it, even though it probably wasn’t really too exciting. Nothing can be more exciting than makeup right? Thank you for stopping by and reading! I hope you have a beautiful week! xo
Hey there! It’s been a little while since I’ve posted. I’ve just been feeling under the weather a lot lately. My allergies really got to me last week, and having chronic illness/pain kind of limits me from doing very much. So I just haven’t felt up to doing much of anything. I really wanted to post something though, so I thought I would ‘Google’ beauty tags online and came across this one. I do plan on writing another post within a few days hopefully…
1. Do you remember your first makeup item?
I really can’t remember a specific item, but I remember when Bath & Body Works had makeup, and buying some of their makeup. I also used Almay a lot too in high school. Though I’m pretty sure that the first item had to be something Wet n’ Wild, in middle school that is.
2. Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications?
Finding the perfect mascara is kind of like trying to find a unicorn. I’d like one that lengthens & volumizes, separates the lashes, has zero clumps, and does not flake off. The closest one that I’ve found to meet those expectations, is the Maybelline Lash Sensational. I’ve tried many different mascaras, but I always go back to that one. Another drugstore favorite of mine is the Covergirl Super Sizer. I still have quite a few mascaras to try out, so I’m hoping to find my holy grail one day soon!
3. What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?
I prefer a buildable medium coverage. Full coverage is nice as long as it doesn’t feel too heavy. I also don’t care for a matte finish too much. It makes me feel like my face is going to crack and break.
4. Favorite high end brand?
That’s a really tough question. I would have to say it’s either Tarte or Jouer.
5. What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven’t?
I really want to try Charlotte Tilbury, Natasha Denona, or Makeup Geek. I cant believe I haven’t tried MUG yet. I have no idea why I haven’t.
6. Favorite drugstore brand?
I love Wet n’ Wild, Nyx cosmetics, and L’Oreal. That’s a hard choice to make!
7. Do you wear fake eyelashes?
Occasionally. If I have time and am not in a rush, I love wearing them!
8. Is there any kind of makeup you can’t leave the house without?
Well I leave the house a lot without any makeup, so that’s not really an issue for me. I would probably feel a lot better if I could at least put on some concealer, powder, mascara, brows, and lip gloss.
9. What is your most cherished beauty product?
I’d have to say my eyeshadow palettes. Those can be really expensive! Like the one in the featured image for this post… 😉
10. How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there or get lots of goodies at once?
I shop for new makeup way too often. We’ll leave it at that. I always say I need to go on a no buy or at least a low buy.
11. Do you have a “beauty budget” or do you spend freely?
I try to be thoughtful with my purchases. Sometimes the hype gets me, you know? Being a beauty blogger, you usually spend any extra money you have on trying new products. I keep saying this to myself, but I need to declutter a lot of old makeup or makeup I just never really used. It’s time to downsize!
12. Do you utilize coupons, rewards cards and sales when you shop for cosmetics?
Oh yes! I love shopping at Ulta the most. I love their rewards program. They always have coupons, and you can activate their 3x or 5x points offers. The points really add up, and then that’s like actual money you get to spend on products in their store.
13. What type of product do you buy the most of?
It has to be lipstick, because you can never have too many everyday pinky-nudes, right?
14. Is there a brand that you absolutely can’t stand?
There really isn’t, though I choose to not buy anything from Jeffree Star. That’s all I will say about that. That is my preference…
15. Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics like parabens or sulfates?
Not really. I should try to be more aware of the ingredients I put on my face though.
16. Do you have a favorite place to shop for makeup?
Like I already said, it has to be Ulta! I love their points system, and they have a great variety of products for every budget.
17. Do you like trying new skincare products or do you keep a certain routine?
I just keep with the same skincare products. My routine is very simple. I can’t really try a bunch of new stuff having Rosacea. I really don’t want to anger the beast.
18. Favorite bath and body brand?
I like Bath & Body Works, though I haven’t bought anything from them in a long time. I usually just pick up some body wash from the grocery store. I would say The Body Shop, but I feel like they don’t have much to choose from when it comes to scents lately.
19. If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose?
Urban Decay, because I know I love their Naked foundation & Concealer, There really isn’t too many things from them that I don’t like.
20. What brand do you think has the best packaging?
I love theBalm’s packaging and Tarte’s.
21. Which celebrity always has great makeup?
I don’t really pay too much attention to celebrities, but I really like Jennifer Lawrence.
22. Do you belong to any online makeup communities?
I’m in a couple of Facebook groups if that counts? I don’t usually post too much, but I like seeing what everyone else posts.
23. Favorite Beauty Gurus
I don’t watch too many bigger channels, but I do like watching emilynoel and thataylaa.
24. Do you like multi-functional products like lip and cheek stains?
I never really use them. I don’t know why, it’s not like I don’t like them. I just never really think to use them.
25. Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
I have my moments. I’ve poked my eye out with a mascara wand quite a few times, stuff like that.
26. Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?
Yes I do. My favorite eyeshadow primer is the Milani eyeshadow primer. I think that using my Tarte Shape Tape concealer on my lids works pretty well too. It covers up the little veins I have going on.
27. How many hair products do you use on a typical day?
Usually none, because 98% of the time I don’t do anything with myself. When I wear my hair straight, I use some hairspray. If I wear it wavy, I use some mousse/gel and hairspray. Though of course I always use shampoo, conditioner, and a leave-in detangler.
28. What do you apply first, concealer or foundation?
Foundation first, then concealer.
29. Do you ever consider taking makeup classes?
I think it would be fun, but I’ve learned a lot from watching videos online.
30. What do you love about makeup?
Makeup is fun. Makeup makes me feel good about myself, it enhances my features. Makeup is art and it’s a way to express myself.
I hope that you enjoyed reading my answers. Feel free to do this tag on your blog if you’d like. I’d love to read your answers, please let me know if you do this tag. Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a great weekend!
Hello there beautiful faces! I think I’m on a little roll with this weekly posting thing. That’s my goal, it’s great to set goals. I hope everyone is enjoying their week. Who got to watch the eclipse on Monday? My Mom had purchased the special glasses way ahead of time, so she shared them with me. I got to check it out without burning my eyes. There will be another one in 2024 actually. If I get to travel to Toledo, OH for it, then I would be right in the direct path! So exciting!
In this post, I’m sharing what I received in this month’s Boxycharm. Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription service. You get 5 full-sized items! No deluxe or small dinky samples here. Though, deluxe samples can be nice too. This subscription is $21/month. Taxes are applied to Florida and Connecticut residents. The shipping is free in the United States, but it is an additional $5 for each box for Canadian subscribers. Boxycharm only ships within all 48 contiguous states and all provinces/territories in Canada. They state on their website that they hope to ship internationally in the future. There is a waiting list usually, though I only had to wait a few weeks when I resubscribed this past winter. Occasionally, they do wave the waiting list…it doesn’t happen too often, but it’s great when it does.
I think this subscription is a great deal because you get about $100 worth of product for only $21/month! Sometimes it could be a little over $100, or maybe a little less. Either way, you get to try out some more “high-end” brands such as Tarte, PÜR Cosmetics, Ofra, and even a couple of more affordable brands such as Colourpop. The CEO/Founder announced himself, that a few of the brands that we will see in boxes for the remaining of this year (2017), will be MAC, Becca, Cover FX, and more! There is also supposed to be more Dr. Brandt as well.
This month’s theme is “Beach Please.” The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea palette (Volume II) is perfect for this theme. The Tarte palette is definitely the “star of the show” in this box. Some people love Tarte eyeshadow palettes, and some not so much. I love them very much, so this palette is such a treat for me. ❤
Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea Volume II Eyeshadow palette
This is a limited edition palette, it contains 8 cool-toned shadows. There are volume’s I and III palettes as well. On the Tarte website, it claims that these shadows are a crease-free formula, and a very creamy formula. Since this is a post just about what I have received in this month’s box, these are my first impressions that I get from the finger swatches done without primer…
Going from top to bottom are the shades: pearl (white shimmer), rip tide (steel blue), breezy (shimmering slate), siren (dark brown), seaside (chestnut), marina (caramel), sunset (yellow gold), and conch (off white).
Judging from the finger swatches, these shadows look really pigmented, and they did feel creamy to the touch. I’m really excited to add this palette to my collection. I love the cool tones in this palette, even though I tend to gravitate more toward warm tones. I like having something a little different in the mix. This palette retails for $36 on the Tarte Cosmetics website. However, it is listed for $18 at this moment on the Sephora website. I am not sure how long it will be listed for that price.
I really love mermaids, and I feel like this palette will look really nice with my mermaid beauty decor I’m going to set up. Just look at the packaging of the palette itself in the picture down below…
I am just loving the sea theme! ❤ Excuse my little quilt as the background. I haven’t gotten to the store to pick up some new white boards for my photos. I really had wanted to have tested these products out for this post, but I have been feeling under the weather this week. It’s been a really rough week for me concerning my health. I just thought I would do a post to talk about Boxycharm the subscription itself, and share what I got this month. You will recognize the feature image from Instagram. I like to reuse those for posts when I can. I am also reusing photos from my instastories/snapchat. I thought why not, I’m not feeling up to retaking new pictures, so these will have to do.
Beauty Crop #GRLPWR Matte Liquid Lipstick in Date Night
Next up, is the Beauty Crop #GRLPWR Matte Liquid lipstick in the shade Date Night (rasin brown). Beauty Crop claims that this liquid lip is intensely pigmented and long wearing. It’s also supposed to be comfortable to wear, it contains shea butter and Vitamin E. It’s not supposed to “cake, flake or dry out.” This is such a beautiful shade!
In the picture above, it’s freshly applied and hasn’t quite dried down matte yet. I think this will be beautiful to wear in the fall, or anytime really! I;m excited to try out the formula and I hope that it lives up to the expectations of being a comfortable matte. This lipstick retails for $14.95 and can be purchased on the Beauty Crop website. ***Edit: Reviews on this liquid lipstick aren’t very good at all. I’m reluctant to even try to apply it. Everyone says it comes off & balls up very quickly, and it’s very drying. Such a bummer!***
Moda Pro 3-piece Brush Set by Royal & Langnickel
You not only get one makeup brush, but a set of 3 makeup brushes! This set contains a pointed blush, chiseled blender, and a crease brush. These brushes are very soft and can be used with both wet and dry products. The Moda Pro brushes, will not be available until this fall on the Royal & Langnickel website. The Boxycharm website lists this brush trio for $26. You may have seen some of the Moda oval brushes at your local Walmart store. I actually have a set, I just haven’t gotten into them yet… #beautybloggerstruggles
Pro Eyelashes by PÜR The Complexion Authority in Diva
Next, we have the PÜR Pro Eyeslashes in Diva. These are cruelty-free luxe lashes, and these are “handcrafted by the finest luxury silk to provide ultra-lightweight, natural looking, fuller lashes.” Is being made from silk cruelty-free? Or maybe it’s “faux-silk,” does that it exist? I don’t know too much about silk…but these are supposed to be durable, reusable, and safe for contact lens wearers. If anyone has any insight about silk or “faux silk,” let me know in the comments section. These retail for $14 on the PÜR Cosmetics website.
Bellapierre Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Ebony
Last but not least, the Bellapierre Waterproof Gel liner in the shade Ebony. Bellapierre claims that this eyeliner is creamy, waterproof, and lasts all day. It’s supposed to glide on smoothly and is “formulated with pure minerals, natural waxes, and antioxidants-making them hypoallergenic and safe for all skin types.” This eyeliner comes in 6 different shades on the Bellapierre website, and retails for $15. From the little swatch that I did on my hand, it looks like a typical black or black/brown gel eyeliner. I probably wouldn’t pay $15 for it. It is cruelty-free, so you could factor that in as well.
Well that’s all that came in the box. I hope to use these products soon and post a look with them on social media. I could also come back and do an update post on what I think after actually using these products. I would like to start including what I receive from my monthly subscriptions each month. I would also like to be sure to try out the products ahead of time to give you my opinion on them. I hope that is something that you would like to read about. I always love reading and seeing what everyone gets in their monthly boxes or even what they purchase in their ‘hauls.’ If you would like to subscribe to Boxycharm, you can click HERE on my referral link, you don’t have to. I hope that you enjoyed this post! Thank you so much for stopping by and reading! Have a great week! 🙂 xxoo
Hey there beautiful faces! ❤ How’s your week going? Mine hasn’t been too eventful. My boyfriend and I recently took my Mom out to lunch for her 60th birthday. That’s quite a milestone! It seems like there are a lot of people I know that have their birthdays in August. Anyway, enough with the small talk. We’re here to talk about the Jouer Cosmetics Springtime in Paris Eyeshadow palette. Jouer is a new favorite brand of mine. You might recognize the feature image from my Instagram. I just recently ordered and purchased this palette from the Jouer Cosmetics website. *I am only starting to use it, so as a disclosure, my thoughts in this post are only my initial thoughts.* I also ordered the powder highlighter in Rose Gold and the high pigment lip gloss in the shade “Champs-Élysées.” Champs-Élysées is an avenue in Paris, France by the way. I’m not really THAT sophisticated, I just googled it.
This palette was inspired by the cherry blossoms lining the streets of Paris. it contains 12 shadows. There are 8 matte shades, 4 metallic shades, and 1 satin shade. I think that’s a pretty nice mix myself. The plastic packing is a light blush pink with a shiny gold design on the cover. This palette seems like it would be very easy to keep clean, which is nice. There is a nice-sized mirror inside the palette, and I think this palette would travel well. A couple of times, when I tried to open it, it was a little bit of a struggle. So, it’s pretty secure!
The shades in this palette are wearable for any time of the year, and you could get many looks from it. I see myself using the darkest shades more as liner shades. For some reason, I always get a little scared to use dark shades on my lids themselves, maybe this palette will help me overcome that fear.
Here are some watches. These are finger swatches without any primer. That’s how I usually do my swatches. Here are the top row swatches…
Crème (warm matte creamy vanilla), Petal (cool matte baby pink), Mauve (cool matte mauve), and Aubergine (cool matte deep eggplant).
True Gold (warm metallic gold), Camel (warm matte light brown), Midnight (cool metallic navy blue), and Rouge (warm metallic burgundy).
Cinnamon (warm metallic chestnut), Ash Brown (deep matte ash brown), Amethyst (warm satin purple), and Slate (cool matte graphite blue).
I listed the shade names and their finishes according to what the Jouer website lists them as. It seems like some of the mattes still have some traces of fine glitter in them. I’m wondering if that’s just because they are stored with metallic shadows, and it spreads around in the palette? Let me know what your thoughts are on that. The shade Midnight, isn’t as pigmented as I thought it would be when I swatched it. Of course, add some primer or use a wet brush, and it could be just fine on the lid. I did use it as a liner shade on my lower lash line. You will see that in the pictures down below. I probably should have sprayed some setting spray on my brush to get Midnight to pop more on my lower lash line, and maybe even extend the wear time.
Jouer claims these shadows are crease resistant and are long-wearing. Well, I totally screwed up testing that…After I got home from lunch today, I took a nap in the afternoon. I fell asleep for 5 hours! The shadows were still there when I woke up, and still visible on my lids. I did’t notice too much creasing either. However, since I was sleeping, it’s hard to really judge their performance. I’m so so sorry for that! I was really tired!
Tip: If you’re ever having trouble with a shadow’s pigmentation: A) Be sure to use a good eyeshadow primer. My favorite is the Milani Eyeshadow Primer. B) Try applying the shadow to your lid using your finger. Not the most ideal way to apply shadow, but it definitely helps in some circumstances! (C) Try wetting your brush, spray your makeup brush with setting spray before application.
For my eye look: I used Petal as an all over base, Camel as a transition/crease shade, True Gold all over the lid, Ash Brown for the outer corner, Crème as a brow bone & inner corner highlight, and Midnight on my lower lash line.
I didn’t use any liner on the top lid, I didn’t want it to take away from the eyeshadow. I used Urban Decay Perversion Mascara on my Top lashes, and Tarte’s Maneater mascara on my bottom lashes. The Maneater mascara seems to work great for that, and it’s also great to use for when you’re applying false eyelashes.
The True Gold shade didn’t show up too well on my lid in this picture. It shows up more like a gold “sheen.” I was just going for a more neutral everyday look, with a pop of color on the lower lash line. On my brows, I used the Milani Brow Fix Kit in Light and the Essence Make Me Brow gel in blondy brows.
For the rest of my makeup…I used the Glossier Moisturizing Primer, Cover FX Natural Finish Foundation in the shade N0, W3ll People Bio Brightener Invisible Powder, Becca Sunlit Bronzer in Bali Sands, Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in dollface, Bareminerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder in Glow, and Urban Decay Chill Setting Spray to set my makeup. On my lips, I used the Jouer High Pigmented Gloss in Champs-Élysées, which I love! ❤ The perfect “my lips but
10x better” shade. It’s very smooth, creamy, and pigmented! I love that it’s NOT sticky whatsoever! I completely forgot to use the Jouer highlighter in Rose Gold. It slipped my mind! Maybe I will do a post on highlighters soon.
Overall, I love the Jouer Paris in Springtime palette. I feel like it was worth it, and am so glad I purchased it! I thought about getting the newest Jouer Shimmer Foils palette, but I’m not quite THAT fancy! Haha! 😀 Maybe I will change my mind about it later…I don’t know. A link to the Jouer Paris in Springtime Palette is HERE. That’s it for this post! Thank you so much for stopping by and reading! Have a great week!
Hey there! How was everyone’s weekend? I am coming back to you today with some pictures from my weekend. My boyfriend and I went away for the weekend. Well, Friday and Saturday we were out of town. This trip was somewhat of a spontaneous one. We hadn’t been on a trip or really did anything fun in a long time. I made the suggestion for us to go to Frankenmuth, MI since I’ve we’ve never been. It was only a couple of hours away, and it wasn’t something overly expensive, but it still looked like a lot of fun. Frankenmuth is a German town known for it’s Bavarian architecture. A nick name for Frankenmuth is “Little Bavaria.”
Frankenmuth has some great tourist attractions and attracts many tourists. There are many shops to visit and fun things to do. Frankenmuth also has their Oktoberfest among other festivals, which started in 1990. Frankenmuth also has a couple of indoor waterparks, it’s a great place to take your family. It can be very educational as well, there is a lot of history and culture in Frankemuth. I just wanted to share some pictures from my weekend, this post contains mostly pictures with some brief descriptions…
This is a picture of my boyfriend and I on our way to Frankenmuth.
Here are a few pictures of our hotel room. We stayed at The Baymont Inn in Bridgeport, MI. It was only a 10-15 minute drive from our hotel to Frankenmuth. Since we decided to go at the last minute, it was cheaper to stay at a hotel nearby Frankenmuth, rather than in Frankenmuth. Maybe next time we go and have more time to plan ahead, we will stay at one of the hotels directly in Frankenmuth. The Baymont Inn was all right though. We did have a jacuzzi tub which was nice!
After checking into our hotel, we headed next door to have some dinner at Crackel Barrel. We actually had breakfast for dinner. Breakfast is great to eat anytime of the day. I hadn’t been to a Crackel Barrel in many years, so I was excited about eating there. Not only is it a restaurant, they have a nice shop attached. I’m sure many of you know of or have been to a Crackel Barrel…
That’s a lot of food I know! We couldn’t finish it all!
Next we headed into Frankenmuth and went over to the River Place Shops….
The first place I saw was Old Time Photo. I saw this place online ahead of time, and was very interested. At Old Time Photo, you can choose from different themes, such as saloon or pirates…
We decided to go with Victorian…
We had so much fun dressing up and doing different poses with different props. The picture above was my favorite, and was the one I picked to have matted and framed. We also just had to purchase the disc with the rest of the images, including the licensing to share any of our photos.
After having our photos done, we browsed a few of the shops and picked up a few souvenirs.
A lot of awesome Michigan goodies!
Of course I couldn’t pass up Mackinac Island Fudge!
Friday evening was very cloudy and gloomy. It even started to rain on our way back to the hotel…
Before we headed back to our hotel, we went to the Bavarian Inn to play a round of mini golf. The Bavarian Inn also has a pool, slides, video and arcade games. A lot fun stuff that would keep your kids very busy!
Here is a picture of my boyfriend sitting on the big chair…
The next day was a beautiful day for a boat ride on the Bavarian Belle, on the Cass River. It was another cooler day, the sun was out, and there was a nice breeze in the air…
They had chairs on each side of the boat and in the middle. There were two levels. We sat on the top one. The bottom one had some chairs and tables to eat at if you wanted to. They had snacks and drinks you could purchase on board.
The boat docks at the waterfall which was really nice too!
The pedestrian bridge
The Zehnder’s Holz Brucke (German for wooden bridge)
The Bavarian Inn
This man’s Golden Retriever got in the water and went for a swim…
Marv Herzog Hotel
Quite a few houses along the river…
The Bavarian Castle Shop
Gunzenhausen Platz Fountain, named for Frankenmuth’s sister city Gunzenhausen, Germany…
Zhender’s for lunch…
We decided to try their “famous chicken dinner.” It was pretty good!
After lunch, we went to the Bavarian Castle shop, then we crossed over the covered bridge to head back to our car…
Our last stop before heading home was the Michigan Military & Space Heros Museum.
This museum honors those that served in the military from Michigan, and astronauts from Michigan.
I thought this would be something neat for my boyfriend to see. I thought it was pretty neat too! I took tons of pictures, but I’m just posting a couple from the museum…
Well that’s the end of this post. Of course I took many more pics than I added, but then that would be one really long post! I hope you enjoyed looking at my pictures from Frankenmuth. I’m planning on posting another post this week that is beauty related. Definitely be on the look out for that. Thank you for stopping by! Have a great week! ❤
Hey there! I am back writing a post…finally! I meant to get this post up sooner, but I had a lot going on. It just seems like summer has been really busy with moving and everything. I wanted to get a post up today, because I am going out of town for a couple of days this weekend with my boyfriend. We’re finally doing something fun on his days off. We’re going somewhere neat, and maybe I will post some pictures on here next week. 😉
In this post, I just wanted to share some new favorites of mine that I’ve tried recently. These aren’t products that I’ve been using long-term, I’ve just been using them for a little bit. So my thoughts on these products are sort of like first impressions. I just wanted to disclose that. I thought I would choose 5 things that I’ve been using lately and am really loving!
First up, is the Cover FX Natural Finish Oil Free Foundation. What drew me to wanting to try this foundation, was that it claimed to have a natural finish. I am more into natural finishes and satin finishes. With my skin type, I feel like a matte finish isn’t as flattering on me. Matte foundations are great for oily skin or even for combination skin. I guess my skin is more Normal to Dry. So when I put on a matte foundation, I feel like my face is stiff and and it just looks all wrong. I am getting older now and am in my 30’s, so I have some fine lines beginning to form. I feel like matte foundation just accentuates that on me.
This foundation is a water-based foundation. It is hydrating, and actually leaves you with a beautiful dewy finish. It’s very light feeling on the skin, and is buildable for a medium-full coverage. This foundation is meant for Normal to Dry skin types. However, I’m thinking they have other foundation(s) suited for Oily to Combination skin. This foundation contains Vitamin C and Vitamin E to protect your skin from free radicals. This foundation does NOT contain sunscreen, so definitely apply some sunscreen to your face beforehand. This foundation does NOT Contain Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, Fragrance, Gluten, Mineral Oil, or Talc.
I have the shade N0, which is for fairest porcelain skin with neutral undertones. They have 40 shades, and cater to a full range of skin tones. They have shades for pink, neutral, and golden undertones. You can check them all out here. They have shades for deep skin tones for women of color, and shades for very fair skin like mine. I am really impressed with their shade range. Here is a picture of a swatch of the Cover FX in the shade N0, compared to Urban Decay’s Naked Skin in 0.5, and L’Oreal’s True Match in Porcelain W1…
The Urban Decay foundation has pink undertones, while the Cover Fx is more neutral. Of course, the L’Oreal has more of a yellow undertone. It was hard to get a good picture. I took this picture in natural light. Cover FX is listed online as being cruelty-free and vegan. It’s a great foundation, I think I like it even more than my Urban Decay Naked Skin. I’ve used a blending sponge and a brush to apply this foundation. They both worked really well, I didn’t feel like one worked better than the other. It was easier to achieve a more fuller-coverage using a brush. It just depends on your preference.
It actually really does blend into the skin very well. I ordered this from the Target website. You can also order it from the W3LL PEOPLE webite as well. On the W3LL PEOPLE website, you can order the full size pictured here, or a mini size. It does cost a couple more dollars ordering from the Target website. W3LL PEOPLE is not only a cruelty-free brand, but also a natural brand.
This simple little palette is the Bh Cosmetics Matte Warm Eye To Go Palette – 6 Color Eyeshadow Palette. Unfortunately, this palette is no longer available right now on their website, which saddens me. I’m really sorry about that! I got this as a free gift when I ordered their Solar Flare Baked eyeshadow palette. They have other 6 color eyeshadow palettes here. I’m hoping that they will bring this one back though. Bh Cosmetics makes some great eyeshadow palettes that are budget friendly, and they’re another cruelty-free makeup brand. I do have to say, some of their products can be hit or miss. Just do your research though and read reviews. 😉
Here are the swatches. All of these shadows are matte, as you can see. They’re nicely pigmented, blend well, and I think this little palette is nice to have when you want to create a simple look, and it would be nice to take along with you when you travel. I like using the cream shade as a base color for all over, and I like using the upper right corner shade in the palette and the lower left corner shade to use as a transition shade and as a crease shade. It’s nice to have something that I got as a free gift work out so well for me.
This is the Glossier Cloud Paint in the shade Dusk, this is a blush with a gel-cream formula. If you don’t normally like cream blushes, you might actually even like this! It’s not greasy at all, it’s lasting, and blends into your skin so nicely and seamlessly. You can just use your fingers to blend it in. There are a total of 4 shades you can choose from. I also have the shade Beam, but I would love to get Puff eventually. You can check out the shades here.
In the pictures above, is the cloud paint in the shade Dusk. I have it blended out on my hand, so you can see kind of what it looks like blended out. You really don’t need to use very much and you can keep building it up to how you want it to look. The cloud paints were inspired by the NYC gradient sunsets. Glossier is another cruelty-free brand as well.
Last but not least, is the Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Bare With Me. Bare With Me is a peachy pink nude shade. I am normally wary of matte lipstick because of how drying it can be. I didn’t think this one was too drying. It was also long-lasting, though it did wear off toward the center of my lips, but that usually happens with most lipsticks. It felt light on my lips, I did notice slight transfer when I kissed my boyfriend on the cheek. It held up nicely though through eating and drinking.
This is such a beautiful shade! I highly recommend it! I purchased this shade along with the shade Stone, from the Ulta Beauty website. Dose of Colors is only available online. You can also purchase from the Dose of Colors website. Dose of Colors is a cruelty-free brand as well!
In this picture, I am wearing all of the products I talked about in this post. You may recognize this photo if you follow me on social media. My cheeks look extra rosy in this picture because of my flushing from Rosacea…I just wanted to mention that real quick. Every product mentioned in this post is cruelty-free. I don’t buy all cruelty-free, but I am trying to be more aware of my purchases. Well that’s it for this post. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comment section down below. I will do my best to answer any questions. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading! I hope everyone has a great rest of the week! ❤
