Makeup of the Day & Reviews on Recent Products Sent to Me by Influenster

Hey there! Long time no write! I said I was going to start writing blog posts again, and finally here I am. For my first blog post back, I am going to be reviewing some products that were sent to me complimentary from Influenster for reviewing purposes. For those of you that don’t know, Influenster sends products out to influencers based on your interests from surveys you take, reviews you write, and they also take into account your social media impact score aka number followers on each platform.

For this post I am going to be talking about a couple of products from Hourglass and a few products from Laura Mercier. First I will write my reviews for each of these products, and then I will post photos of my makeup of the day along with details of all of the products I used.

Hourglass Seamless Finish Foundation Stick

The most recent products sent to me from Influenster are from Hourglass. I was sent the Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick, along with their Veil Translucent Setting Powder (which I will get to next). I was sent the shade Blanc, which is their lightest shade available. They have a total of 32 shades available ranging from very fair to deep, including cool, neutral, and warm undertones. This foundation is vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free. It claims to be weightless, water-proof, and full-coverage.

With this foundation, a little goes a long way. The directions state for you to dot a few times in different areas of your face. I buffed it out using my It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Flat Top Buffing Foundation Brush #6, which worked really well for me. This foundation has very buildable coverage and can be built up to full-coverage. I built mine up to about a high medium coverage, and it felt very light-weight. It looked like skin, and felt like my skin which I loved. Whenever I’m getting ready, I tend to have an issue with sweating. I have heat intolerance. With this foundation being water-proof, it held up great with my sweaty face. I sweat a lot on my head and on my face. So I was very impressed!

My skin type is normal to dry, sensitive, and I have Rosacea. It didn’t break my skin out or cause any irritation. I wore this foundation for up to about 8 hours, I think it held up really well considering my sweaty face, and wanting to blot the sweat off of my face constantly. I’m pretty sure this will be my foundation that I will be using all summer. I will be continuing to use this shade, since I am photosensitive and cannot be out in the sun very long. My skin tone will stay the same. Since using a little bit goes a long way, I think it will last me for quite sometime.

Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder

This is a very finely milled powder formulated with light-reflecting particles to blur any imperfections. It claims to blur the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles all while giving you an airbrushed finish. The packaging of this powder is very interesting because it contains a gold sifter with a custom cap to allow for just the right amount of powder to be dispensed. The formula is infused with diamond powder for light refraction without having any flashback. This translucent powder is supposed to work for all skin tones and is formulated without any talc.

I felt this powder worked very well at blurring any imperfections. It has a beautiful invisible finish. It didn’t make my skin look powdery at all. I felt like it blended seamlessly with my skin, and I will continue to use this as my setting powder. This powder is very luxurious as well as being luxuriously priced. They do sell a smaller version if it’s something you just want to try, but not spend the full amount. The standard size is .36 oz, while the mini size is .07 oz.

A couple of month’s ago, Influenster sent me a few complimentary products to try from Laura Mercier. I was sent the Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick in the shade Nu Prefere, Longwear Lip Liner in the shade Baby Lips, and their Blush Colour Infusion in the shade Rose.

Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick

This lipstick delivers high-impact color while feeling light-weight. The claims are that this lipstick is long-wearing for up to six hours without any bleeding, feathering, fading, or settling into lines. It’s infused with Mediterranean Sea algae extract, which makes this lipstick very hydrating, while giving a smooth appearance. I found these claims to be mostly true. It was very hydrating, and the color was very pigmented and beautiful. It wore very well, though after eating and drinking it did wear off a bit (which is to be expected with a hydrating lipstick). I did still see a flush of color on my lips though, it faded quite nicely if you know what I mean. This lipstick has a satin finish which I really like and prefer over a matte finish. In the picture below on the right, is a swatch of the Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick in the shade Nu Prefere.

inf_15547939721567679678816930383924.jpg

Laura Mercier Longwear Lip Liner

In the photo above to the left, is a swatch of the Longwear Lip Liner in the shade Baby Lips. I will also have photos of myself at the end of this post to show what everything looks like on. Baby Lips paired very well with Nu Prefere, and was very close to my natural lip color. I can see myself using it with other lipstick as well. It glided on easily, yet it was firm enough to make a more defined line. The lip liner itself has a matte finish, and can be worn all over the lips. It kept my lipstick in place and was easy to use. Normally, I’m not a fan of pencil liners like this one, but it didn’t drag or tug at my lips at all.

Laura Mercier Blush Colour Infusion

I was sent the shade Rose, which is a perfect rose shade with a matte finish. This blush is a sheer but buildable blush that give your cheeks a natural flush of color. It goes on very smooth and blends very well into the skin. I started with a light hand, because I wasn’t sure exactly how pigmented this blush would turn out. It actually went on very light, and I liked that I could build up the color to my liking. This blush is long-lasting as it claims, it claims to last up to 10 hours. It lasted on me for about 8 hours, which is how long I had my makeup on. This shade complimented the lipstick and lip liner very well that was sent with it. Down below is a picture of a swatch of the shade Rose.

New Product Favorites

Hey there! I am back writing a post…finally! I meant to get this post up sooner, but I had a lot going on. It just seems like summer has been really busy with moving and everything. I wanted to get a post up today, because I am going out of town for a couple of days this weekend with my boyfriend. We’re finally doing something fun on his days off. We’re going somewhere neat, and maybe I will post some pictures on here next week. πŸ˜‰

In this post, I just wanted to share some new favorites of mine that I’ve tried recently. These aren’t products that I’ve been using long-term, I’ve just been using them for a little bit. So my thoughts on these products are sort of like first impressions. I just wanted to disclose that. I thought I would choose 5 things that I’ve been using lately and am really loving!

20170723_171442

First up, is the Cover FX Natural Finish Oil Free Foundation. What drew me to wanting to try this foundation, was that it claimed to have a natural finish. I am more into natural finishes and satin finishes. With my skin type, I feel like a matte finish isn’t as flattering on me. Matte foundations are great for oily skin or even for combination skin. I guess my skin is more Normal to Dry. So when I put on a matte foundation, I feel like my face is stiff and and it just looks all wrong. I am getting older now and am in my 30’s, so I have some fine lines beginning to form. I feel like matte foundation just accentuates that on me.

This foundation is a water-based foundation. It is hydrating, and actually leaves you with a beautiful dewy finish. It’s very light feeling on the skin, and is buildable for a medium-full coverage. This foundation is meant for Normal to Dry skin types. However, I’m thinking they have other foundation(s) suited for Oily to Combination skin. This foundation contains Vitamin C and Vitamin E to protect your skin from free radicals. This foundation does NOT contain sunscreen, so definitely apply some sunscreen to your face beforehand. This foundation does NOT Contain Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, Fragrance, Gluten, Mineral Oil, or Talc.

I have the shade N0, which is for fairest porcelain skin with neutral undertones. They have 40 shades, and cater to a full range of skin tones. They have shades for pink, neutral, and golden undertones. You can check them all out here. They have shades for deep skin tones for women of color, and shades for very fair skin like mine. I am really impressed with their shade range. Here is a picture of a swatch of the Cover FX in the shade N0, compared to Urban Decay’s Naked Skin in 0.5, and L’Oreal’s True Match in Porcelain W1…

20170723_172735

The Urban Decay foundation has pink undertones, while the Cover Fx is more neutral. Of course, the L’Oreal has more of a yellow undertone. It was hard to get a good picture. I took this picture in natural light. Cover FX is listed online as being cruelty-free and vegan. It’s a great foundation, I think I like it even more than my Urban Decay Naked Skin. I’ve used a blending sponge and a brush to apply this foundation. They both worked really well, I didn’t feel like one worked better than the other. It was easier to achieve a more fuller-coverage using a brush. It just depends on your preference.

Β Next up, is the W3LL PEOPLE Bio Brightener Invisible Powder. It’s an ultra-fine loose powder that is supposed to look invisible, and it’s supposed to be a universal shade. It claims to blur fine lines, and soften imperfections. I think it definitely lives up to those claims. I like to use this with the Cover FX foundation, I’ve only used this combination together. My foundation does last a long-time, so it could either be the foundation itself and/or the powder helps as well. This powder is hypoallergenic, chemical free, cruelty free & noncomedogenic. It does NOT contain parabens, gluten, GMO’s, phthalates, sulfates, fragrance, pheonoxyethanol, dimethicone, PEG, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, lead, mineral oil, or talc. In the photo below, I blended some in on my hand. I didn’t want to blend it in too much, so it would still be somewhat visible, if that makes any sense? I don’t know, maybe I should’ve blended it in more so you can see it being invisible…

20170723_174217
20170723_174304

It actually really does blend into the skin very well. I ordered this from the Target website. You can also order it from the W3LL PEOPLE webite as well. On the W3LL PEOPLE website, you can order the full size pictured here, or a mini size. It does cost a couple more dollars ordering from the Target website. W3LL PEOPLE is not only a cruelty-free brand, but also a natural brand.

20170723_171559

This simple little palette is the Bh Cosmetics Matte Warm Eye To Go Palette – 6 Color Eyeshadow Palette. Unfortunately, this palette is no longer available right now on their website, which saddens me. I’m really sorry about that! I got this as a free gift when I ordered their Solar Flare Baked eyeshadow palette. They have other 6 color eyeshadow palettes here. I’m hoping that they will bring this one back though. Bh Cosmetics makes some great eyeshadow palettes that are budget friendly, and they’re another cruelty-free makeup brand. I do have to say, some of their products can be hit or miss. Just do your research though and read reviews. πŸ˜‰

20170723_173048

Here are the swatches. All of these shadows are matte, as you can see. They’re nicely pigmented, blend well, and I think this little palette is nice to have when you want to create a simple look, and it would be nice to take along with you when you travel. I like using the cream shade as a base color for all over, and I like using the upper right corner shade in the palette and the lower left corner shade to use as a transition shade and as a crease shade. It’s nice to have something that I got as a free gift work out so well for me.

20170723_171902

This is the Glossier Cloud Paint in the shade Dusk, this is a blush with a gel-cream formula. If you don’t normally like cream blushes, you might actually even like this! It’s not greasy at all, it’s lasting, and blends into your skin so nicely and seamlessly. You can just use your fingers to blend it in. There are a total of 4 shades you can choose from. I also have the shade Beam, but I would love to get Puff eventually. You can check out the shades here.

In the pictures above, is the cloud paint in the shade Dusk. I have it blended out on my hand, so you can see kind of what it looks like blended out. You really don’t need to use very much and you can keep building it up to how you want it to look. The cloud paints were inspired by the NYC gradient sunsets. Glossier is another cruelty-free brand as well.

20170723_173937

Last but not least, is the Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Bare With Me. Bare With Me is a peachy pink nude shade. I am normally wary of matte lipstick because of how drying it can be. I didn’t think this one was too drying. It was also long-lasting, though it did wear off toward the center of my lips, but that usually happens with most lipsticks. It felt light on my lips, I did notice slight transfer when I kissed my boyfriend on the cheek. It held up nicely though through eating and drinking.

20170723_174121

This is such a beautiful shade! I highly recommend it! I purchased this shade along with the shade Stone, from the Ulta Beauty website. Dose of Colors is only available online. You can also purchase from the Dose of Colors website. Dose of Colors is a cruelty-free brand as well!

In this picture, I am wearing all of the products I talked about in this post. You may recognize this photo if you follow me on social media. My cheeks look extra rosy in this picture because of my flushing from Rosacea…I just wanted to mention that real quick. Every product mentioned in this post is cruelty-free. I don’t buy all cruelty-free, but I am trying to be more aware of my purchases. Well that’s it for this post. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comment section down below. I will do my best to answer any questions. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading! I hope everyone has a great rest of the week! ❀

My Perfect Find: J.cat Beauty Cushion Compact Foundation

Hello there! How is everyone doing? I can’t believe it’s almost Christmas! Have you gotten your shopping done? I pretty much have mine done, but I have a couple of loose ends to tie up. In today’s post, I am going to be talking about a new favorite of mine from J.cat Beauty. J.cat Beauty is an indie brand, though they’re becoming more popular. You can find J.cat products on their website or some select items on the Ulta website. I first discovered J.cat through Ipsy, which is a monthly beauty subscription. J.cat Beauty has grown and added more products since I’ve been ordering from them. They’re a cruelty-free brand as well, and their products are reasonably priced.

“ALL IN ONE ONE-STEP [SKINCARE + MAKEUP]” – J.cat Beauty website

This foundation is currently only available on the J.cat Beauty website. I had been wanting to order this foundation for quite a while, but my shade was out of stock. The shade I have is “CCC101 Porcelain,” which is the lightest shade. I usually wear the lightest shade in most  foundations. This foundation also comes in 7 other shades. They have swatches of all the shades on their website, and very detailed information, I’m pretty impressed!

“What it does?

Daily Sun Exposure 45+ Protector
*Flawless Natural Coverage
*Boost&Lock In Hydration
*Weightless Texture & Easy To Touch Up Makeup”

                                                                                       – J.cat Beauty website

The packaging is a black compact that reminds me of a hockey puck. It has a silver design and lettering on the front, and other detailed information on the back. When you open it up, it has a pretty nice mirror, and it comes with a flat black sponge-like puff for application…

20161217_155739

20161217_155848

When you lift up the sponge, underneath there is a cap that opens up containing a cushion with the good stuff…

20161217_155957

20161217_160055.jpg

It is important to keep the top securely closed when not in use, so that it doesn’t dry out…I’m assuming. It’s really easy to use. All you do it press your puff down on the cushion and it picks up the foundation. Then you use your puff to apply it to your face using a tapping motion. It blends evenly and easily, and I love the coverage! The coverage is anywhere from medium to high. You can layer it and it builds up very nicely. I usually do about 2 layers, and it really is weightless on the skin. It has a natural finish; which I really like, and it seems like it has a subtle, dewy type of finish. I have a ‘normal’ type of skin, with a couple of dry patches. This foundation is supposed to be good for all skin types. I feel like the Porcelain shade is a prefect match for my skin tone. I find that this foundation is lasting on my skin, and if you do need to do a quick touch-up throughout the day; the compact fits nicely in your purse. I think this would be great for those of you that are always on the go.

20161217_160359

The picture above, is a picture of the ingredients and information on the box it comes in. On the other sides of the box, there are also instructions and details about the compact as well. They also give you a great tip, you can fold the puff in half to apply in smaller areas; such as the corner of your eyes or around the nose. I purchased this compact for $17.99, which is not bad at all for the quality. When you run out, you can simply order a refill for $12.99. I will definitely be repurchasing a refill when the time comes. At this time, J.cat Beauty only ships within the U.S and Canada.

Epic Win or Epic Fail – The New e.l.f. Aqua Beauty Mousse Foundation

20161213_171817

“Infused with Purified Water, Coconut Oil, and Vitamin E, the silky formula glides on and provides sheer-to-medium coverage.” – The e.l.f. cosmetics website

Today’s post is on the new e.l.f. foundation that is part of their Aqua Beauty line. This is the 2nd foundation of theirs that I’ve tried. The first one was the Acne Fighting Foundation. I meant to have this post up sooner, but I was feeling under the weather this past weekend. I am doing much better now though. Did anyone else get hit with snow this weekend? We sure did here in Michigan. I think we got at least 7 or 8 inches. I have a feeling it’s going to be quite a snowy winter! Anyhow, Let’s get onto the review…

20161213_171913

The packaging is a blue-green squeeze tube with a cap that screws on and off. I’m thinking the stripe around it is transparent so that you can see the exact shade. It’s 0.96 fl oz. and can be purchased on the e.l.f cosmetics website for $6.

e.l.f claims this foundation is hydrating, and it’s supposed to give your complexion a radiant and dewy looking finish. I have to disagree with that claim. I felt like it had more of a matte finish, and it really clung to my dry patches. I find it really funny that on their website in the how to use section, their beauty tip for this foundation suggests that you mix in a few of of their dewy drops. You really shouldn’t have to if this foundation is supposed to give you a dewy finish. Am I right?

20161213_172004

I have the shade Fair/Light, and it seems like it might be just a tad bit too dark for my complexion. It also appears to have more of a yellow-tone. Though when I add my setting powder and some bronzer, the shade seems to work all right. If you’re lighter than me though, then I don’t think this foundation will work for you shade-wise. They also have the shades: Light/Medium, Medium/Dark, and Dark/Deep. That is not very much to choose from. I feel like e.l.f. really needs to work on shades for those that have a really light skin tone as well as those that have darker skin tones. On Instagram, there seems to be a lot of complaints about their shade selection, and I don’t blame them.

20161213_172143.jpg

This foundation is supposed to be a sheer to medium coverage. You’re supposed to be able to build it up to a medium coverage. If I hadn’t been so impulsive in ordering this foundation and read more about it, I probably wouldn’t have ordered it. I didn’t realize the coverage would be so light. The first time I put it on, I was like “where did it go?” I really couldn’t build up the coverage. I used my Real Techniques sponge to apply it to my face. I did try to use a brush and my fingers as well. I felt like the RT sponge worked best for me because it seemed to blend out better that way. This foundation does dry and set pretty fast.

Even though I don’t really care for it much right now, I will come back to it in the summer when there is more humidity in the air. If you have dry skin or any dry patches, I don’t think you will like this. If you have oily skin, then you might like it. This foundation also caked up in the creases underneath my eyes. It didn’t seem to work too well with my Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. For me, this foundation was an “Epic Fail.” Keep in mind though that different products work differently for different people. I really love the e.l.f. brand and there are a lot of products of theirs that I do love.

Well that about wraps it up! Has anyone tried this foundation? What are some of your favorite e.l.f. products? Let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear from you, even if it’s just to say hello. I hope you’re having a great week!
