Epic Win or Epic Fail – The New e.l.f. Aqua Beauty Mousse Foundation

20161213_171817

“Infused with Purified Water, Coconut Oil, and Vitamin E, the silky formula glides on and provides sheer-to-medium coverage.” – The e.l.f. cosmetics website

Today’s post is on the new e.l.f. foundation that is part of their Aqua Beauty line. This is the 2nd foundation of theirs that I’ve tried. The first one was the Acne Fighting Foundation. I meant to have this post up sooner, but I was feeling under the weather this past weekend. I am doing much better now though. Did anyone else get hit with snow this weekend? We sure did here in Michigan. I think we got at least 7 or 8 inches. I have a feeling it’s going to be quite a snowy winter! Anyhow, Let’s get onto the review…

The packaging is a blue-green squeeze tube with a cap that screws on and off. I’m thinking the stripe around it is transparent so that you can see the exact shade. It’s 0.96 fl oz. and can be purchased on the e.l.f cosmetics website for $6.

e.l.f claims this foundation is hydrating, and it’s supposed to give your complexion a radiant and dewy looking finish. I have to disagree with that claim. I felt like it had more of a matte finish, and it really clung to my dry patches. I find it really funny that on their website in the how to use section, their beauty tip for this foundation suggests that you mix in a few of of their dewy drops. You really shouldn’t have to if this foundation is supposed to give you a dewy finish. Am I right?

I have the shade Fair/Light, and it seems like it might be just a tad bit too dark for my complexion. It also appears to have more of a yellow-tone. Though when I add my setting powder and some bronzer, the shade seems to work all right. If you’re lighter than me though, then I don’t think this foundation will work for you shade-wise. They also have the shades: Light/Medium, Medium/Dark, and Dark/Deep. That is not very much to choose from. I feel like e.l.f. really needs to work on shades for those that have a really light skin tone as well as those that have darker skin tones. On Instagram, there seems to be a lot of complaints about their shade selection, and I don’t blame them.

20161213_172143.jpg

This foundation is supposed to be a sheer to medium coverage. You’re supposed to be able to build it up to a medium coverage. If I hadn’t been so impulsive in ordering this foundation and read more about it, I probably wouldn’t have ordered it. I didn’t realize the coverage would be so light. The first time I put it on, I was like “where did it go?” I really couldn’t build up the coverage. I used my Real Techniques sponge to apply it to my face. I did try to use a brush and my fingers as well. I felt like the RT sponge worked best for me because it seemed to blend out better that way. This foundation does dry and set pretty fast.

Even though I don’t really care for it much right now, I will come back to it in the summer when there is more humidity in the air. If you have dry skin or any dry patches, I don’t think you will like this. If you have oily skin, then you might like it. This foundation also caked up in the creases underneath my eyes. It didn’t seem to work too well with my Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. For me, this foundation was an “Epic Fail.” Keep in mind though that different products work differently for different people. I really love the e.l.f. brand and there are a lot of products of theirs that I do love.

Well that about wraps it up! Has anyone tried this foundation? What are some of your favorite e.l.f. products? Let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear from you, even if it’s just to say hello. I hope you’re having a great week!

Makeup Favorites

Happy December! I hope all is well with you. I can’t believe Christmas is almost here and 2016 will be over. Who is ready for a new year? I know I am! Today, I am going to be talking about my Makeup Favorites. I am not going to go too much into these products because this isn’t a review. These are products that I’ve been using for a while. I know everyone is posting their monthly favorites right now, but I just wanted to share with you my favorites that I’ve been loving lately…

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation
img_0215

I’ve been using this foundation for quite a while and it’s been the best foundation I’ve ever tried! At least for me that is. I was hesitant to spend $40 on a foundation since I had never bought a “high-end” foundation. I can tell you though, that it was totally worth it! I love it so much because it truly does feel “weightless” on the skin. Matte foundations seem to be a popular choice, but a lot of them felt really heavy on my skin. This demi-matte foundation makes your skin still look like skin, yet it has great buildable coverage. I wear the shade 0.5 which is a pretty fair shade with pink undertones. This line offers a wide variety of shades, which a lot of makeup brands are lacking. I really like the packaging and I love that it has a pump as well.

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Powder
img_0217

Up next, is the ever popular Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Powder. Say that 5 times fast! What I love about this powder is how light-weight it is and it doesn’t settle into my creases. It has a very silky finish and I feel like it can be used with any skin type. I guess my skin type is “normal,” whatever normal is. I wear the shade 10 Porcelain and this comes in 7 other shades as well. I purchased this from Ulta for $10.99. I have a picture of what it looks like down below. No, my sponge isn’t really that clean. I just turned it over to the clean side for this picture.

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer
img_0220

I’m pretty sure everyone in the makeup world has heard of this crazy popular concealer, and I’m sure it doesn’t need much of an introduction either. This sought after concealer is always going out of stock. Luckily, I happened to find mine one day in an Ulta store. I bought it not long after it came out. This concealer is full coverage, creamy, and doesn’t settle into fine lines. A little bit goes a long way! My favorite method of applying this, is to use my Real Techniques blending sponge. I have this concealer in the shade fair, which is described to be for “fair skin with pink undertones.” You get a lot of product with this and it has a huge wand. Definitely worth the $24!

Essence Contouring Powder
img_0222

This budget friendly contouring powder by Essence has been a long time favorite. I specifically only use the bronzer part, since I’m not too keen on the highlighter. This is in the shade Light 01, and they also have the shade Medium 02. I feel like this shade of bronzer is a great option for fair skin. It blends really well and doesn’t look too overdone. You can pick this up for $3.99 at Ulta, or on the Essence website and Target’s website/select stores.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone
img_0227

My favorite highlighter lately, Moonstone is a pale gold shade that leaves a nice natural finish. No glitter chunks with this highlighter, Becca knows their highlighters! I actually purchased this in a set, The Glow On The Go Moonstone set for $20. I think that’s a great way to go if you don’t want to drop $38 on the full size version of this pressed powder. I purchased mine online from Ulta. The set also includes the Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight in Moonstone. Which is the liquid version you apply with a wand. I haven’t used it yet, so I can’t really tell you how I feel about it. I’m definitely going to be pulling it out to use soon though.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Pencil
img_0235

Anastasia knows brows, that’s a fact! I have never tried the Brow Wiz, I just went straight for the Brow Definer. Some people might prefer the Brow Wiz because it has a fine tip, while the Brow Definer has a thicker triangle-shaped tip. I feel like this tip covers more area and it doesn’t take as long to do my brows. I picked this up from Ulta for $23 in the shade Taupe, which is a nice light ash brown. I have also been using this along with the NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe. The Nyx one seems to be a tad bit lighter and has the finer tip like the Brow Wiz. I like to use the Nyx pencil to get those inner small hairs, while I focus the Brow Definer on the tail ends. The difference in shades gives a nice effect.

The Brow Definer also has a spoolie at the end.

Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Mascara
img_0242

Another bargain treat from Essence, the Make Me Brow gel mascara is said to be a dupe for Benefit’s Gimme Brow. I wouldn’t know for sure because I have never used the Gimme Brow. I had my hands on it once, but passed it on to my Mom. I don’t know what I was thinking at the time, I wasn’t really into using a product like this and never tried it. Anyhow, This brow gel has a nice little brush that makes it easy to get to those little fine hairs. It’s tinted and contains little fibers to help fill in your brows. I really love it and it gives the perfect finish to my brows. I have the shade Blondy Brows 01. There are two other shades: Browny Brows 02 and Soft Browny Brows 03. I bought this for $2.99 at Ulta, what a deal!

Mac Lipstick in Magic Spell & Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in In control
img_0248

These two aren’t something that I have been using for a long time exactly, but they’re already a favorite! I have received a lot of compliments wearing this combination. These two belong in a set that also came with the Vamplify Lipgloss in Tuned In. I assume you use all 3 of these together. I haven’t used the lip gloss yet. The lipstick on it’s own already has a nice shine. The set is called the Nutcracker Sweet Nude Lip Kit. The lipstick in Magic spell is a mid tone mauve nude with a cremesheen finish and the Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in In Control is a brown mauve. The Vamplify Lip Gloss in Tuned In is a mid tone rosy nude. I ordered this set online from Nordstrom for $39.50. Right now, it’s 20% off and you can get for $29.63. I will link it here. This set also comes with a cute pink and burgundy cosmetic bag.

The Bh Cosmetics Foil Eyes Palette

Today I bring you my first real “official” blog post on Kate’s Vanity! Finally! Right? I’m so sorry for the delay. I really wanted to post a lot sooner, but then life came up and sometimes it kind of gets in the way. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Or if you’re not from the US, then a great Thursday!

img_0123

I bought the Bh Cosmetics Foil Eyes palette last month. This palette contains 28 very colorful and eye catching shadows. These shadows are a mixture of shimmer and metallic shades. A few do contain glitter. The packaging is plastic with a clear cover as you can see in the picture above. I have ordered other products from Bh Cosmetics before, and they’re usually great for the price. However, as with any brand, it can be hit or miss.

img_0112

When I first swatched these shadows, it was love at first sight! They swatched so beautifully, felt so smooth, and appeared to be very pigmented. Before I tell you my thoughts on the palette, take a look at the pictures of swatches down below. I swatched these with my finger without any primer, only swatching 1-2 times each…

These look like a dream don’t they? Well when it came to actually applying these on my eyelids with a brush, I was a bit disappointed. They’re weren’t very pigmented at all. I thought, “What am I doing wrong?” So, I used my finger to pat it on my eyelids which helped a lot. I feel like it’s hard to evenly cover my eyelid though with just patting with my finger. I also tried spraying my brush with setting spray, which really helped out a lot. It actually looks really pretty doing it that way.

I wouldn’t say these shadows are very lasting either. Better to just try to wear them for an evening out or something. It’s such a shame though that this palette didn’t turn out how I thought it would. Swatching with your fingers doesn’t always mean that’s how it’s going to swatch with your brush, unfortunately. I don’t have any pictures of this shadow applied to my eyes like I had wanted to. I just wasn’t really feeling my eye look with it.

I paid $12 for this palette, which is extremely affordable. For that price, I am willing to work with it. Today for Cyber Monday, Bh Cosmetics has 80% off of their site. This palette is currently only $7 today! I feel like it’s a great time to try some things you might not be sure about. If you would like to visit there site, click HERE.

I could’ve gone into how many grams each shadow has and how much each shadow is worth…but I’m not going to. Like I said, it’s a very affordable palette. Have any of you tried this palette or any other Bh Cosmetics’ palettes before? If so, which ones? Let me know in the comments! I hope you all have a great week!

Sorry for the delay!

Hey there! Long time no chat right!? I just wanted to write up a quick post to apologize for the delay. I meant to start posting last month but I’m getting off to a slow start. I plan on jumping in this month for sure. I am just waiting for my new camera to get here, which should be soon!

I also want to thank all of you for your support and for following!  ❤ I am looking forward to  chatting with all of you and reading your posts! Many of you knew me from my last blog, Plus+ Beauty. I was gone for a year due to some health issues. I am very sorry for suddenly being gone. I am doing well now and am happy to have a fresh start back here in the blogosphere. I am really loving my new blog name and header! The lovely Kami from Living Grace offered to design a new header for me, which was so nice of her! She has her own Etsy store Eight Fourteen Designs, if you are ever interested in getting a new custom design for you blog.

So how is everyone doing? What’s new? Please let me know in the comments section below. I would love to hear from you!
