20 Questions Tag + UPDATE

Hey there! It’s been a little while! To catch you all up to date, I had surgery a week ago. I had an arthrocentesis procedure done on both of my jaw joints. It’s done to drain the extra fluid (inflammation causing) in those joints, then they flush them out and lubricate them. I also got steroid injections in the muscles while I was under. I had to be under general anesthesia, but it was an outpatient procedure. I was glad to get to go home and not have to stay in the hospital. A week later, I’m still recovering and still have some soreness. I hope this procedure helps with my TMJ pain in the long run.

So how’s everyone doing? Today was a day that finally looked and felt like spring. We recently had snow and frozen rain here in Michigan, but today was sunny and much warmer. I was feeling up to doing a post this evening, so I thought I would do a get to know me type of post. I have some newer readers I’m thinking, and these types of posts are always great for letting others know a little more about yourself. It’s just random questions…

1. Thing you cannot leave the house without.
I’d rather not leave the house without my purse. It has my wallet, keys, phone, lip balm, etc…

2. Favorite Brand of Makeup.
This is such a hard question! I really love Tarte. I love the collections they come out with, including the most recent mermaid one! Let me know if you want a review on their Mermaid palette. I also really like Too Faced, I loved their peach collection. For a more inexpensive brand, I’ve been enjoying the Colourpop pressed shadows. I really should do a post sometime on one of the Colourpop palettes that I own.

3. Favorite Flowers.
I love the traditional roses, and I love the Tiger Lilies that pop up in front of my house too.

4. Favorite clothing stores.
I usually buy clothes from Maurices or Torrid. I’m a plus-size, and Maurices has a nice plus-size selection along with non-plus/straight sizes.

5. Favorite perfume.
I’m sensitive to specific overpowering scents, my go-to favorite is White Woods by CLEAN. It’s a light woodsy scent.

6. Heels or Flats.
Having a bad back and being 6 ft tall, I wear flats.

7. Do you make good grades?
I did in school. I haven’t been in school in many years.

8. Favorite colors.
My favorite color is purple. I also like green, blue, and pink.

9. Do you drink energy drinks?
The closest thing I drink to an energy drink is the Starbucks Vanilla Double Shot Energy Drink. I don’t drink them everyday or anything, but often.

10. Do you drink juice?
I really don’t drink juice. Maybe once in a great while.

11. Do you like swimming?
Yes I do, though it’s been a long time. Unfortunately my skin is sensitive to chlorine.

12. Do you eat fries with a fork?
Who really does that!? I prefer to eat them with my hands dipped in delicious ketchup!

13. What’s your favorite moisturizer?
From what I’ve tried lately, I have been enjoying products from Kiehl’s. I have been able to try quite a few things from them since I bought a couple of value sets at Christmas time. I think they were on sale then too possibly, I can’t remember. I recently received my first Influenster Box that was filled with some LA Roche-Posay goodies, maybe there will be some new favorites!

14. Do you want to get married later on in life?
Yes I do. It’s my dream to one day marry my long-time love ā¤

15. Do you get mad easily?
I try not to. I don’t think I do usually.

16. Are you into ghost hunting?
No! I’d rather not see anything like that!

17. Any phobias?
Spiders, heights, and I have trypophobia.

18. Do you bite your nails?
I have off and on during my life. I’m trying not to bite them, it’s an anxious habit. I can’t really bite them right now having a sore jaw.

19. Have you ever had a near death experience?
No, I don’t think so…

20. Do you drink coffee?
Yes, I do. I think I liked iced/cold coffee drinks better.

Well that’s it for the questions. I hope you enjoyed reading my answers. I got this tag from V from Say Hello to Gorgeous. Actually, I somehow found it even though it’s from 2015. I think I was looking through her old posts to see what she had posted a long time ago. V has a great blog though, so definitely check it out! I’m not going to tag anyone, but feel free to do this one. Let me know if you do! Thanks for reading! xo

Been Out Sick…For Two Months!

Hey there! Long time no post! I’m the worst blogger ever! I just realized that i haven’t posted anything here in 2 months! I’m so sorry about that! I’m still dealing with my TMJ issues, and this last week I suffered with a nasty cold. I got my cold from my boyfriend, who got it from my nephews, after they were over here on the weekend. They like to come up and stay over every now and then with their Aunt Katie. It seems like a lot of people have been sick lately. Tis the season! I hope you all are in good health!

I have been meaning to make a couple of important phone calls to schedule medical appointments, but I’ve just felt miserably sick. I need to schedule a consult with an oral surgeon for the possibility of surgery, since I have a ton of fluid surrounding my jaw joint. I figured that with being sick, there isn’t much they could do right away. Plus, my throat was holding me back from speaking properly…

I use an app called Slice on my phone. It tracks packages, orders, expenses, and it even let’s you know when there is a price drop on something you ordered. I had ordered the Real Techniques Limited Edition illuminate and accentuate 2.0 set from Target. I had missed out on a lower price from Black Friday on the ULTA website, so I decided to just go ahead and order it full price. Slice notified me of the price drop. It dropped down to $13.99 after I had paid $19.99. So I contacted Target customer service by phone, they were pretty busy and preferred a phone call for price comparisons. I felt so bad for the lady I was talking to, she could barely understand me with the frog I had in my throat. I got it done though and $6.00 was refunded back to me.

I haven’t tried this set yet, but I really love Real Techniques brushes and their blending sponges. I highly recommend them. They work great and won’t break the bank! Unfortunately, these are not on sale anymore at Target.

The Slice app has been very helpful when it comes to keeping track of my packages. It would be especially helpful to those of us who do all of our Christmas shopping online. I pretty much do 90% of my shopping online. That goes for anytime, not just for the holidays. I have some other useful apps I use as well. I can do a post about them if anyone would like one. Just let me know in the comments. I can also elaborate a little more on this particular app as well.

Anyway, I plan on making my phone calls ASAP since I can speak more clearly now. I also would like to try to get some more blog posts up soon. I have ordered quite a bit with all of the awesome sales/deals going on. There was Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and “Cyber Week.” Even now, several websites are doing 25 Days Of Christmas specials. I’m sure I won’t run out of new products to talk about anytime soon.

Speaking of shopping, who is ready to go on a no-buy/low buy with me? When you’re a beauty blogger, we seem to end up with an overabundance of beauty products. You just get caught up in all of the hype when it comes to new products, especially when they’re “Limited Edition.” Or with these recent holiday sales, you feel like you should buy something just because it’s on sale and you don’t want to miss out on such a great deal to save money…when really you would save a heck of a lot more by not buying anything in the first place!

If you have gone on a no-buy or a low buy, let me know how that went for you, and if you have any helpful tips…OR if you are planning on doing it, what’s your plan of action? Let me know! This concludes this post. I just wanted to touch base and update everyone on where I’ve been. I hope everyone is having a great holiday season! šŸŽ„ Thank you for stopping by and for reading!

The Blogger Recognition Award

Hello!
How was everyone’s week so far? Well I haven’t had the best of luck this week. I was planning on doing a post, but I’ve been sick unfortunately. I went to the hospital and found out that I have a bad infection. I had to have an IV containing antibiotics before I could go back home. I’ve just been resting and taking my antibiotics, along with drinking plenty of water. I apologize yet again, for not being as active here, on WordPress, like I would like to be. I hope to get a new post up again as soon as I’m feeling up to it.

I did want to write up some kind of post though. I was recently tagged by the lovely ‘Beauty Mommies‘ for The Blogger Recognition Award. Thank you so much for tagging me! ā¤ At first, I told myself that I wouldn’t do tag posts, but I’m thinking they’re a good idea. I have a new blog now, along with new readers. Some of you know quite a bit about me from my last blog, but then there are those of you that don’t really know anything at all about me. So I figured that, by answering these questions, it would give you all a chance to get to know more about me and my blog.

The Rules:

  1. Thank the Blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Write a post to show your award.
  3. Give a brief story of how you started your blog.
  4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  5. Select other bloggers you want to give this award to.
  6. Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide a link to the post you created.

How I started this blog?

Well as some of you know, I used to run a blog called ‘Plus+ Beauty Blog.’ It was quite a successful blog. I started blogging while I was living in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was far away from my home state (Michigan), and I didn’t know anyone, or how to go about to meet new people. I figured that I needed to come up with some kind of hobby. I don’t work because I’m disabled. I deal with chronic pain/illness on a daily basis. I won’t get too much into that. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask me in the comments down below.

Well anyway, After running my blog for over a year, I had to take a break to get ready to move back to Michigan. We were living in Vegas in the first place, because my boyfriend’s work sent him there. He had to be there a minimum of 2 years. After 2 years was up, we decided that Vegas wasn’t the best place for us to be. I thought I would continue blogging once we were moved in and got settled. Well, my health and my pain level were not doing too well, along with some other private health issues I was dealing with.

A year had passed, and I didn’t blog. I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to get back into blogging again. For a long time, I just didn’t feel like myself. Then one day, I thought that I would like to get back to blogging, but I wanted to make a fresh start. So I deleted my old blog, came up with a new name, header, and that’s how Kate’s Vanity was born. I wanted to reconnect with old friends on here, and make new ones. Though, of course I got into blogging about beauty, because it’s a passion of mine. I wanted to be able to share that passion with others with similar interests. I don’t want this blog to only be limited to beauty only. I do plan on doing other types of posts as well.

My advice to new bloggers…

  1. If you’re getting into blogging, expecting to be paid and to get well-known, then don’t blog. Blog about your topic because it’s your passion. It takes time to grow a blog and to grow your audience. I’m not saying that you won’t ever make it to being paid for blogging, or that you won’t become well-known in the community. I’m really meaning to say, don’t expect it to happen overnight. Let this experience be about something you love, and enjoy it!
  2. Don’t worry about numbers. If you write it, they will come. I gave up, something like 1500+ followers on my old blog when I deleted it. I’m not here for the numbers. I’m here to have a conversation about all things beauty, and more! Also, one little last tip…I’m sure a lot of fellow bloggers can relate, I get peeved when some people leave a comment saying something like this “Come check out my page!” followed by the address of their blog page. It’s really very annoying! Just saying…When someone follows me, I usually follow them back, based on their content. If you write a post that piques my interest, then I will definitely click on it and read it.

Nominations for this post…
